On July 28th, 2023, World Hepatitis Day, Sresakthimayeil Institute of Nursing and Research in Kumarpalayam, organized a health day at the Erode Government Headquarters Hospital. The event aimed to raise awareness about hepatitis and its impact on public health. In this program led by Nursing Superintendent Mrs. P. Manimegalai, RN, RM, nursing staff, and other dedicated nursing professionals.
Our B.Sc. I-year students of Sresakthimayeil Institute of Nursing and Research played a vital role in the event. One of the highlights of the program was the “One life, one liver,” theme-based rangoli competition was conducted, to spread awareness about hepatitis. Through this rangoli, they conveyed the message that collective efforts are required from individuals, communities, and organizations to combat hepatitis using all available resources, the students provided in-depth awareness about hepatitis, ensuring that the attendees were well-informed about the disease. They highlighted the different types of hepatitis, risk factors, methods of transmission, prevention strategies, and available treatment options. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and timely intervention to prevent severe complications associated with hepatitis. The participation of the community in the event was noteworthy. A significant number of people attended the program, indicating the success of the awareness campaign. The event also provided an opportunity for the attendees to clarify their doubts and concerns about hepatitis, making it an interactive and educative experience for all. They developed health promotion skills, such as effective communication and creative approaches to raise awareness. Understanding of hepatitis, teamwork, and leadership skills were also enhanced. The students improved their public speaking confidence and engaged with the community, fostering empathy and patient-centered care.
